Chemex
IDEAL FOR: Producing crisp, clean coffee with excellent clarity
GRIND SIZE: Resembles "white sugar” (around 7-8 on the EK43 grinder)
COFFEE TO WATER RATIO: 60g/litre
METHOD:
- Start by rinsing the paper filter with boiling water. This step removes any paper taste and pre-warms the brewer.
- Measure 60g of medium-ground coffee per liter of water and place it into the moistened filter.
- Pour enough water over the coffee grounds to saturate them, allowing the coffee to "bloom."
- Once the foaming subsides, gradually add the remaining hot water in stages. Try to keep the brewer about half-full throughout the process.
- The brewing process should take around 5 minutes. If it takes longer or shorter, adjust the grind size accordingly; coarser grinds brew faster, finer grinds slower.
SUGGESTION: Brew directly onto a digital scale for precise measurement. It may seem cumbersome, but it ensures the perfect coffee-to-water ratio. Remember, 1ml of water weighs 1g.
